Vicar's Message

LOVING GOD AND SERVING ONE ANOTHER

With most Covid restrictions removed, we are looking forward to once again meeting in Church for Remembrance Sunday to commemorate those who have given their lives for our freedom.  As we think about the past 18 months and gradually adopt the ‘new normal’, I invite you to reflect on what it really means to live in ‘freedom’. As a Christian I take it that true freedom is to love God and to love our neighbour. Interestingly, although the pandemic has limited our ‘freedom’ it has actually resulted in many new people coming to know and love God for themselves for the very first time. Similarly, throughout our community, we have seen many more people supporting their ‘neighbour’ through this difficult time. And so, although the pandemic may have limited our interaction, it has also awakened us to love God and one another in ways we haven’t seen before. Sadly, with a growing post-Covid ‘freedom’ comes a growing individualism, in which our lives revolve less around the wellbeing of our ‘neighbour’ and more around ‘my comfort’ and ‘my success’, sometimes at the expense of others. Is this what our men and women gave their lives for?

My hope and prayer as we mould the ‘new normal’ is that we learn from the past 18 months and make time in our increasingly busy lives to know God and keep serving one another. How? Well, one way to keep serving one another is to keep asking how people are doing and to keep helping where we can. And one way to grow in your knowledge and love of God is to join us at All Saints on a Sunday mornings at 10am when we meet together with all ages to praise God and hear what He has to say through the Bible.

Please do come along. We’d love to welcome you.
